Alyssa Fluet, age 21, of Methuen, died on Monday, Aug. 14 in Long Island, Maine, while trying to stop a 1998 Ford Ranger that was rolling from a parked position, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The Ford Ranger rolled into a 2004 Ford Ranger, pinning Fluet between the trucks and killing her.

Fluet was born in Lawrence and grew up in Methuen, where she attended Methuen High School, according to her obituary. She was a student at Salem State College before her death, studying theatre/acting, according to her Facebook profile.

"She shone brightly on all those around her; family, friends, coworkers, and more," read her obituary. "She loved and was loved. There is now a hole in all of our hearts, especially for the love in her life, Cam."

A GoFundMe fundraiser designed to support Fluet's family with costs including funeral bills was flooded with donations, receiving almost $30,000 in five days.

Donors shared words of support as well as financial gifts.

"Thank you for bringing such a light to this world Alyssa," wrote one donor. "Rest in peace angel."

Others took to social media to share memories and tributes to the young woman.

"If you had told me a year ago that someday I’d be waiting in line for almost an hour, side by side with hundreds of strangers, just to get a glimpse of her…well, frankly, I would have believed you,"  read one such Facebook post. "But instead of the lighted marquee of a Broadway theater, we said our goodbyes at the foot of her casket."

"I've never experienced a bond as strong as we had and I don’t think I ever will again," wrote one of Alyssa's friends on Facebook. "You were and always will be the sister I never had."
